Coach Phelps has been coaching for over thirty-three years, and twenty-three of those years at Capistrano Unified School District. Coach Phelps has coached for Jr. All American football in Mission Viejo in 1990 for 8 years and started coaching Track & Field at Dana Hills High School from 2000 to 2013 and helped lead Dana Hills to four straight Orange County Championships titles and has coached many individuals to CIF State Championships. Coach Phelps joined Tesoro High School in 2013 as the Head Coach for Cross Country and led the Titans to its first state appearance at the CIF State Championships in 2013 and in 2014, 2022, 2023. Coach Phelps has guided his teams to 9 CIF Cross Country Finals appearances. Coach Phelps took over the Head Coach of Track & Field in 2015 and has led his teams to league Champions and coached many individuals to CIF State Championships. In 2019 four Tesoro Alumni had competed at the NCAA Division 1 National Cross Country Championships.

Dave White

After graduating from Cal State Fullerton in 1975, Dave started teaching and coaching Cross Country and Track at Villa Park High School. Villa Park had competitive boys teams in O.C. and C.I.F. in the 1970s through the 1990s, often placing in the top ten in C.I.F. The teams Dave coached won the O.C. championships in 1983, 1984, and 1985. The 1985 team was second in C.I.F. and the 1994 team captured the D-2 C.I.F. championship.
Dave has coached three runners who have gone on to break 4:00 in the mile in college, including Garrett Corcoran who recorded 4:05 in high school at the Adidas Dream Mile in New York City in 2014. Dave retired from teaching and coaching at Villa Park in 2014 and joined the coaching staff at Tesoro High School in 2017. Coach White will be starting his sixth year at Tesoro and works with our Freshman and Sophomores boys.
